# How to process the declaration of consent?

In order for you to store personal data in ChurchTools in accordance with data protection law, it is necessary that the persons whose data you wish to store have consented to the data storage.

In principle, you can use the texts we suggest, but you should adapt them to the exact conditions regarding storage and data processing in your congregation. It is particularly important that your text contains information about the storage location and the purpose of data storage. You can find out how to adapt the texts in this article.

## Call up settings for the declaration of consent

To edit the declaration of consent, use the *tool icon*(1) in the blue menu bar to call up the *System settings* (2) and there the settings for *data protection/security* (3) and navigate to the *declaration of consent* (4).

## Define behavior when creating new persons

First, use the two *switches* to specify whether or not the information on the declaration of consent should be mandatory fields when *creating persons manually* and/or when *creating persons via the API*.

## Consent by user

In the lower area, use the *pencil symbols* to adjust the *texts for your own consent* and also the *consent for your own children*.

If you would like to (re)obtain consent from users who have already been created, you can activate a *banner* via the *button* that prompts them to confirm the declaration.

**Tipp**

If you have already entered a text in the *translations* that you would like to use here, you can enter the corresponding translation *key* here in a text field.

To do this, write the *key* in the field without any further additions and save. The text that is stored in the *translations* is then displayed in the text field.
