# Difference between global and group-internal permissions

## Global permissions

The global permissions are the permissions that apply to your entire ChurchTools.

You can give them for different properties of users:

- Permissions for users who have a certain **status**.
- Membership of any group of a certain **group type** allows you to assign permissions that apply to the whole system.
- By becoming a member of a specific **group**, you can also assign permissions that affect the entire system.
- You can also give permissions directly to **individual users**.

**Warning**

You should only authorise users directly in exceptional cases! It makes more sense to assign permissions via **status or group membership** so that you can keep an overview of your permissions management.

## Group-internal permissions

Global permissions that apply to the entire system can be given to a group. In addition, with the group-internal permissions you also have the option of giving permissions via group memberships, which are only valid within the group in question.
