# Overview Placeholder

Placeholders let you quickly and easily create personalized text for different recipients or use cases without having to write each piece of text individually. Instead, you can write a general text and use placeholders within it to customize the text for your specific needs.

## Where can I use placeholders?

ChurchTools uses placeholders that open up many possibilities for you. You can currently use these placeholders anywhere in ChurchTools where you can compose e-mails or send form letters. Support for using them in label printing will be added in the future.

**Hinweis**

The placeholders you've been able to use in ChurchTools so far can still be used. This ensures that any text you've already created that uses placeholders will continue to work.

Depending on the context in which you're writing a text, there are various placeholders available that you can insert either through the new user interface or by manually entering the placeholder (e.g., `{{person.firstName}}` (person's first name)).

**Hinweis**

If you want to restrict the use of personal data fields as placeholders, you can configure this individually for each personal data field in the *master data* of the *Persons* module.

Whether you're manually writing an e-mail to individuals or groups or having ChurchTools send e-mails automatically, in most cases you can use many placeholders.

Whether in the HTML template or in the text of your mail merge—you can use the placeholders here as well.

### Placeholders in donation receipts

In donation receipts, you use special placeholders from the "Finance" module. ## Advanced Use Cases

You can use so-called *placeholder functions* to embed QR codes in your e-mails, for example. You can even customize them for multiple recipients.
