# What are group member statuses and what effects do they have?

In ChurchTools, group members can not only have different [roles](https://staging.churchtools.academy/en/help/churchtools-modules/about-the-groups-module/what-are-castors-and-what-can-i-use-them-for/), but also three different statuses.

These have the following effects:

| Status | Impact |
| --- | --- |
| Requested | The person should/would like to join the group, but is not yet an active member of the group. |
| Active | The person is an active member of the groups. |
| To delete | The person should/would like to be removed from the group and is already no longer an active member of the Group. |

You can use the statuses to control which people are active members of your group. Only *active* members receive permissions through the group membership, can participate in the chat, write posts in the group, etc.

In groups with a limited number of seats, only people with the status *Requested* or *Active* are counted. If a person is marked as *To be deleted*, their seat in the Group will also become free again. If your group has a waiting list, excess people are placed on the waiting list and receive the status *Requested*.

In the *Members* tab, you can see an overview of all the people in your group and their status:
