# Where does the donor data come from during a transaction?

In ChurchTools Finance, you can select the appropriate donor directly when entering a donation. The Finances module accesses the person records in the Persons module. This means you can select any person for whom a record has been created in the Persons module of your ChurchTools.

You can also create a new donor record here if one doesn't already exist.

If a person's record is linked to another person's through a spousal relationship, you can also indicate here that the donation was made as a married couple. This makes it especially easy for you to issue donation receipts at the end of the year, since the same donation is then certified for both spouses.

**Tip**

We recommend that you create a separate person record for each member of a married couple, rather than a single record for both.

So create separate records for both people, and then link them as a married couple in the person details using the *"Spouse* " relationship.
