# Frequently used group types

Group types can be used in different ways. Sometimes it even makes sense to introduce a new group type in order to structure the permissions more clearly or to introduce clarity in the terminology.

The following table shows you possible group types that are frequently used.

| **Group type** | **Alternative names** | **Description** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Small group | House group | You can use the ‘small group’ group type to organise smaller, informal groups within a congregation. These can be home groups, Bible study groups or prayer groups, for example. **The aim of such groups is to promote fellowship and strengthen the personal faith of the participants.** |
| Service | Teams | The ‘Service’ group type is intended for the organisation of voluntary activities and services within the congregation. This includes, for example, music, technology, childcare or the welcoming team. **The members of these groups work together to support and organise the congregation services and events.** |
| Characteristic | Interests | The group type ‘characteristic’ is used to classify people within the community based on certain attributes or interests. Examples of characteristic groups are age groups, musical preferences or language skills. **These groups help to get to know the members of the congregation better and to create targeted offers for specific groups.** |
| Actions | Measures | ‘Actions’ is a group type that you can use for projects or activities within the congregation. Such projects can be both short and long-term, such as a fundraising campaign, a congregation outing or a social project in the neighbourhood. |
| Keys | Key management | Here you use one group per key type to list the people who are in possession of such a key. |
| Events | Registration / Excursion | For frequent events with registration scenarios, it may make sense to introduce a separate group type for this. |
| Follow-ups | Next Steps | You can map many processes in the congregation with follow-ups. |
| Distributor | Newsletter / Communication | In these groups, you manage different lists of people so that you can contact them more quickly or enable them to communicate with each other. |
| Divisions | Board / Committee / Diaconate / Working group | Groups of this type are used to represent the various divisons or committees within the congregation. |
| Projects | | You can use groups of this type to differentiate independent projects from other offers in the congregation. |
| Seminars | Course / Training | Further training programmes for internal or external persons. |
| Theological cases | | Recording of the theological cases by means of groups. |
| Group homepages | Website sections | More flexibility to display your own groups together on the website. |
